Are you a birder, nature journaler, or urban sketcher? If so, you can see more, draw better, and learn faster with this technique.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WOazBe5PwDw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>For a long time I would carry binoculars on my neck but didn&#8217;t really know how to use them effectively. My binos were more ornamental then functional. They made me feel like a naturalist and they showed others that I was serious. Finally, I got a different pair of binoculars and I started using them more while nature journaling. Little by little I developed a system that helped me use them while drawing. Now, they have become an essential drawing tool for me just like a pencil or eraser.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Draw With Binoculars: Two Ways<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Method One-The Shifting Eyes Method<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This method is good for nature journal beginners<\/li>\n<li>Use a chair<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t use very heavy binoculars<\/li>\n<li>Support your drawing surface on your lap<\/li>\n<li>Because your surface is supported you should be able to draw with one hand<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1993\" src=\"https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-draw-using-binoculars-300x169.png\" alt=\"how to draw using binoculars in a eye shifting method\" width=\"492\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-draw-using-binoculars-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-draw-using-binoculars-1024x578.png 1024w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-draw-using-binoculars-768x434.png 768w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-draw-using-binoculars-1536x868.png 1536w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-draw-using-binoculars-1200x678.png 1200w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-draw-using-binoculars.png 1834w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 492px) 100vw, 492px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hold your binoculars against your brow bone (above your eye).<\/li>\n<li>Get your subject in view and brace your bino-holding arm.<\/li>\n<li>Angle your head so you can also peer out the bottom of your binoculars at your drawing and get your hand ready to draw.<\/li>\n<li>Alternate between looking at your subject and looking at your drawing.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your binoculars in position.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Method Two-The Visual Memory Method<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This method is more difficult but is good practice for developing your visual memory as an artist.<\/li>\n<li>You can use a chair or stand up.
