{"id":2470,"date":"2021-08-04T17:31:57","date_gmt":"2021-08-05T00:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/?p=2470"},"modified":"2022-04-19T13:53:03","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T20:53:03","slug":"art-toolkit-unboxing-and-review-on-the-nature-journal-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/product-review\/art-toolkit-unboxing-and-review-on-the-nature-journal-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Art Toolkit Unboxing and Review on The Nature Journal Show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this week&#8217;s video, Marley tests out a new field kit from Art Toolkit, a supplies company created by Maria Coryell-Martin. \u00a0Marley previously <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/GNJoVrnMO-c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">interviewed<\/a> Maria on the Nature Journal Show about her expeditionary art.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oo6y1N0NdaQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4>Checking Out the New Tools<\/h4>\n<p>After looking through his knife collection and selecting a huge cleaver, Marley opens the package. \u00a0Inside is the <a href=\"https:\/\/arttoolkit.com\/products\/art-toolkit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">art toolkit<\/a> containing: a sturdy zippable nylon kit pouch, pocket mister, Moleskine watercolor sketchbook, fine-tip Sharpie marker, medium waterbrush, binder clips, ruler, and waterbrush refill syringe. \u00a0Some of the tools are a bit different from what Marley normally uses, but he is open to experimentation. \u00a0Being flexible that way is a great practice for any nature journaler to have.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2516\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2516\" style=\"width: 840px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2516 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ArtToolkitReview2-1024x673.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"552\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ArtToolkitReview2-1024x673.png 1024w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ArtToolkitReview2-300x197.png 300w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ArtToolkitReview2-768x505.png 768w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ArtToolkitReview2-1536x1010.png 1536w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ArtToolkitReview2-2048x1347.png 2048w, https:\/\/marleypeifer.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ArtToolkitReview2-1200x789.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2516\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marley examines the Art Toolkit he received in the mail.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4>Testing a New Palette<\/h4>\n<p>Next, Marley decides to test out a free <a href=\"https:\/\/arttoolkit.com\/products\/palettes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">palette<\/a> Art Toolkit sent him. \u00a0The palette contains some watercolors Marley has not used before, as well as some old standbys. \u00a0Maria uses a revolutionary system of magnetic pans, meaning you can easily switch out one paint pan with another, whether for custom field trips or different pan sizes, and ultimately control the layout of your palette. When you are testing out a new palette, remember the following tips:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Always start a new palette by making a full color chart.<\/strong> \u00a0By doing this, you will know your supplies and be more comfortable with what they can do &#8211; <em>before<\/em> you go into the field.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be honest about the colors you don&#8217;t love.<\/strong> \u00a0They are taking up valuable palette space and can be vacated for other preferred colors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Test the full range of each color.<\/strong> \u00a0When you are painting a swatch, start on one end with the color at full strength. \u00a0Then, clean off your brush a bit and continue painting the same swatch, so you can see what the color looks like when it is diluted.<\/li>\n<li><strong>List or label your colors.<\/strong> \u00a0Better yet: keep them on the same page as your chart. \u00a0Know what you have!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep notes on what you observe.<\/strong> \u00a0Does this paint lift out? \u00a0Does it granulate?
