Remember when we did blind contour drawings earlier in the challenge?<\/p>\n

Today’s Prompt: Three blind contour drawings in one minute<\/h3>\n

Now, it’s time to work faster. Blind contour drawings have taught us how to be looser. Maybe you have been doing a few every day as a warmup or for fun. In that case you will be ready to do more and do them faster. Even if you have not done any since the first prompt, I haven’t, then you will still be able to do today’s prompt. Especially, if you have been nature journaling the prompts every day for the last ten days. Doing so every day gets us in the flow. In my recent interview with Mike Daikubara<\/a> he emphasized the cumulative power of sketching every day even if it is just for five minutes.<\/p>\n

What are the benefits of blind contour drawing?<\/h3>\n

  1. Detachment from outcome.<\/li>\n
  2. Speed.<\/li>\n
  3. Economy of lines.<\/li>\n
  4. Page “navigation” sense.<\/li>\n
  5. Ratio of looking.<\/li>\n
  6. Looseness.<\/li>\n
  7. Creative unlock.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Modified blind contour drawing<\/h3>\n

    Ok, so maybe you finished your three blind contour drawings and you still want to do more nature journaling for today. One option is to experiment with modified blind contour drawing. In this case, you can look occasionally at your drawing but you are still trying to spend more than 50% of your time looking at your subject. In this way you can incorporate some of the above listed benefits of blind contour into a more controlled drawing. Another approach, that many people used for day three of the challenge is to add color and some details to your blind contour after you do the initial drawing.<\/p>\n
