Have you ever seen something in nature that you immediately had to share? How did you share it?
Today’s Prompt: “Something in nature that made you want to call a friend”
There are several directions you can go in with today’s prompt. Actually, there are probably almost infinite directions. With the nature journaling challenge prompts for this month I wanted to leave some of them more open-ended. After all, artists like wriggle room don’t they? The important think for today is to try to reflect on this idea. Actually, it is more of a feeling. That feeling of excitement and discovery that quickly turns into a desire to share.
During the Wild Wonder conference 2022, Karen Romano Young taught a class on science comics. One of the things she share is the importance of sharing. For her, creating the art, making the novel observations, deepening ones personal connection with nature is only one part. Just one part. The other part is sharing. We need to share those pages with the world. To see more of Karen’s perspective check out the video below. (the video quality is not ideal but the content is great).
Last tips for today’s prompt:
- First, think of a time when you found something in nature and immediately had to call and tell a friend.
- Make a comic. Can you make a simple comic telling the above story?
- Try micro-fiction. Can’t remember anything for step number one? No worries, make something up. Rosemary Mosco mentioned her practice of writing “microfiction” during her talk at Wild Wonder 2022.
