Uh oh, another challenge?
For seven days, I will try to journal like Leonardo Da Vinci. I’m telling you in advance so that I will be accountable, so that I will be less likely to quit or procrastinate. Don’t let me quit, ok? I’m starting Monday May 11th and going through Sunday. Every day for an hour I will emulate some of the essential techniques used by Leonardo in his journals and sketchbooks. An hour isn’t enough but…
Why do it? Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the greatest artists and thinkers of human history. That is well established but now I am going to say something unpopular that many people will argue with. Leonardo was NOT a genius. That’s right. I don’t think Leonardo was a born genius, I think that his process was genius. Luckily for us, his process is something we can study, dissect, and emulate.

Another reason I am doing this Leonardo Da Vinci Journaling challenge is because I like to take a dose of my own medicine. I recently made an online class specifically about emulating and learning from Leonardo’s journaling approaches. So I have to try it out on myself. You can check out the class here on Skillshare. With this link you can see the class and get one free month on the Skillshare platform.
The class is called “Journal Like a Genius: 7 Day Leonardo Da Vinci Journaling Challenge.” In seven bite size chunks students are guided through some of Leonardo’s main approaches but applied to their own lives and interests.

The class is designed to be fun, practical, and empowering. Even if you have perfectionism issues or fear of drawing, don’t worry. Each exercise comes with warmups, tips for common problems, and extra credit for the more ambitious or advanced students.
I will try to go live on Instagram and YouTube when I am doing the actual journaling. The plan is 8 to 9am California time. So make sure you are following me on those platforms @marleypeifer
